With back to school almost upon us I thought it would be a great time to look at using Google Calendar to help keeping your family organized. With Google Calendar you can keep track of events, activities and plan with confidence for all your family members.
Google Calendar is free. Its easy to use and share between your family. This will really help you stay organized. So the paper calendar that is somewhere on a cluttered desk near your kitchen can now be replaced with Google Calendar. Everyone will have access to it from the smartphones, tablets and computers.
Some of the advantages of using Google Calendar:
- Access calendar from all your devices
- Sharing the calendars lets everyone see and create events
- Set up reminders
- Set up recurring events like birthdays and anniversaries
- Colour code each family members events
- Set up multiple calendars for each member of your family
You will need to set up a Google account and once that is done you can find Google Calendar.
You will then set up a calendar for each family member – if you click on My Calendars on the left hand side of the screen and select create new calendar. You can then fill in the details for each member. To pick a colour just have the cursor hover over your new calendar and pick a colour. With each member having their own colour its really easy to pick out their events on the screen.
To share the calendars, each family member (age 13 or older) will need their own Google Account. On your calendar click on My Calendar and choose settings. the Change Sharing Settings. You then enter their email addresses of the people you want to share with. Permission Settings allow you to choose who can make changes, manage sharing, or view only. Pick and choose as you think appropriate.
Hopefully this will make your life just a little bit easier.
What I really like about creating an event is the amount of detail you can put into it. I especially like the location information that automatically can link to Google Maps.
